Music We'd Like to Hear is proud to host the final event in the year-long Festival of Laurence Crane to celebrate the composer's 60th birthday. The programme features two new works in tribute to the work of American marine biologist, conservationist and writer Rachel Carson, commissioned by Juliet Fraser.
"This Unquiet Autumn" by London-based composer Lara Agar sets Carson's written and spoken words warning of the gulf in communication between the scientific community and the general public.
"Natural World" by Laurence Crane explores the poetic nature of factual or list-based texts, the words drawn from catalogues of birds and marine life, as well as a response to three books by Carson which became known as her Sea Trilogy.
